Reflections
Issue #4- My first issue. Looking back, it's quite obvious that my style for formatting leans a collage. Some noticeable areas to improve would be my management of space– the text clearly needs to breathe in some areas.
Issue #5- My solo issue. This is issue I worked on solo (I usually have a partner). I was still inexperienced, so I really designed these pages based on "vibes". I still think they look aesthetically eye-pleasing, but if I could change, I would definitely make the visual elements more connected with the text. Otherwise, I liked how I played around with graphics' opacity to create the illusion of texture. This was before I found out Pinterest existed, so I was playing around with whatever I stumbled upon in Canva. It got to a certain point where I started recognizing graphics in Canva in other people's posters and designs, which is a funny detail.
Issue #6~#8- I had a new partner for these three issues. She had a very distinct style, which is reflected through the three issue covers. I learned to work around partner aesthetics for these few issues which was why these issues seemed noticeably cleaner.
Issue #9- Got a new partner! My own aesthetic has become slightly simplistic, although I still try to sneak in some collage-ish designs here and there.
Issue #10~#11- Probably the most fun I've had formatting. There's a major style change on terms of background, visual content, and hues applied. Issue 10 was when I discovered Pinterest and it's clear that I fell in LOVE.
Legacy Gazette is one of the magazines I work on to balance my workload in and out of school. It is genuinely one of the most fun experiences I've had formatting and what I consider to be one of the keystones in fundamentally developing my skills as a designer. The magazine is formatted with Canva, which although is a basic application for design, has allowed me plenty of freedom to experiment with diverse aesthetics and unique icons.
